Set to announce significant investment and job creation for the Rio Grande Valley
BROWNSVILLE, Texas, January 28, 2025 – The Port of Brownsville continues to solidify its reputation as a leader in international trade and logistics, proudly celebrating its longstanding partnership with Ternium, a leading steel producer in the Americas and long-term port customer.
On Monday, Jan. 27, Brownsville Navigation District Chairman Esteban Guerra presented Ternium with a plaque to commemorate the company’s commitment and contributions to the port. Ricardo Prosperi, Ternium’s Global Trade President, and Cesar Jimenez, president of Ternium de Mexico, received the distinction “Charting a Course to Success”.
“The Port of Brownsville proudly recognizes Ternium for its longstanding business relationship with the port, which spans over 30 years,” said Brownsville Navigation District Chairman Esteban Guerra. “We take pride in fostering partnerships with innovative and international companies like Ternium, whose commitment to excellence and sustainability aligns with our goal of creating sustainable industries that support good-paying jobs and contribute to the economic vitality of our region.”

Ternium is a leading steel producer in the Americas, manufacturing and processing a broad range of steel products using the most advanced technology while servicing the construction, automotive, energy, and household appliances industries. Also at the meeting, Prosperi presented an accolade to Chairman Guerra and Port Director and CEO William Dietrich highlighting the port’s operational excellence, which has contributed to its place in the global steel market. As one of the prominent steel-handling ports in the U.S., the port remains a cornerstone of Ternium’s supply chain, ensuring efficient transport to meet growing market demands.
In 2024 alone, the port facilitated the movement of five million tons of steel slab for Ternium, bolstered by its robust infrastructure, rail connectivity, and strategic location. The company is utilizing the Port of Brownsville for receiving, staging, and shipping all the steel slab processed at its plant in Pesqueria, Mexico, one of the most modern industrial complexes in the world.
Strengthening its commitment to the Port of Brownsville and the Rio Grande Valley, Ternium is working on a more than $200 million development that includes a new marine terminal operation at the port, part of its multi-billion-dollar expansion of its state-of-the-art steel industrial center in Pesqueria. This terminal operation is projected to increase the steel and other metals’ throughput at the port to more than 9 million tons. Additional project details will be announced in the future.
